You can put this solution on YOUR website!
c = ounces of cantaloupe in salad
s = ounces of strawberry in salad
b = ounces of banana in salad
given:
c+%2B+s+%2B+b+=+40
b%2Fs+=+3%2F1
c+=+s
and
b%2Fs+=+3
b+=+3s
rewriting the 1st equation:
s+%2B+s+%2B+3s+=+40
5s+=+40
s+=+8 oz
and
c+=+s
c+=+8 oz
and, since
c+%2B+s+%2B+b+=+40
8+%2B+8+%2B+b+=+40
b+=+40+-+16
b+=+24
There are 24 ounces of bananas in the salad
check:
b%2Fs+=+3
24%2F8+=+3
24+=+24
OK
