Question 1208210: Use the data in the table below, which shows the employment status of individuals in a particular town by age group.
Age Full-time Part-time Unemployed
0—17 27 179 384
18—25 216 192 307
26—34 240 69 27
35—49 556 185 197
50+ 278 165 349
If a person is randomly chosen from the town's population, what is the probability that the person is under 18
or employed part-time?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
Use the data in the table below, which shows the employment status of
individuals in a particular town by age group.
Age Full-time Part-time Unemployed
0—17 27 179 384
18—25 216 192 307
26—34 240 69 27
35—49 556 185 197
50+ 278 165 349
If a person is randomly chosen from the town's population, what is the
probability that the person is under 18 or employed part-time?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this problem, the probability is the ratio of two numbers, numerator and denominator.
The denominator in this problem is the sum of all numbers of the table in columns 2, 3 and 4.
It is the number of all people in the problem.
The numerator is the sum of all people in the cells of the table that are relevant
to the listed categories in the problem.
The categories of people given in the cells
of the table in this problem are disjoint subsets.
So, your task is to find the denominator and the numerator, as described,
and then to divide the numerator by the denominator.
When you will calculate the numerator, your task is to add all relevant
participating categories (numbers in the relevant cells) once. Don't add any category twice.
These are primitive mathematical operations, which I leave to you to implement.
