Question 1203518: In a bag are five counters each of a different colour: green, yellow, red, blue, and purple.
A) If one counter is drawn from the bag and replaced and then a second is selected, find the probability that a green counter then a blue counter is selected. That is find p(G,B).
B) If the first counter selected is not replaced before the second is selected, find the probability that a green counter then a blue counter is selected.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Part (a)

1/5 = probability of a green counter = probability of a blue counter
The probability does not change because we put the first one back.
(1/5)*(1/5) = 1/25 is the probability of getting green then blue when replacement is made.

---------

Part (b)

For this part, 1/5 still represents the probability of getting a green counter on the 1st selection. Then 1/4 is the probability of getting a blue counter because the first selection is not put back or replaced.

(1/5)*(1/4) = 1/20 is the answer.
