Question 1168714: Two fair dice, one blue and one red, are tossed, and the up face on each die is recorded. Define the following events:
E:{ The sum of the numbers is even }
F:{ The numbers are equal }
Find the following probabilities:
(a) P(E)=
(b) P(F)=
(c) P(E∩F)= Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
There are 36 possible outcomes when rolling two fair 6-sided dice, regardless of whether they are the same or different colors. One way to make 2, two ways to make 3 and so on up through six ways to make 7 and then five ways to make 8, four ways to make 9, down to one way to make 12. Half of these 36 outcomes are even sums.
Six of the outcomes are "doubles".
All of event F are even sums, so P(E∩F) = P(F).
