Question 1160693: Class records at Rockwood College indicate that a student selected at random has probability 0.61 of passing French 101. For the student who passes French 101, the probability is 0.92 that he or she will pass French 102. What is the probability that a student selected at random will pass both French 101 and French 102? (Use 3 decimal places.)
Looking not just for the answer but how to solve.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

You may assume that the total student population at the college is 10000 persons.

Then 0.61 of them passed French 101, that are 0.61*10000 = 6100 students.

Of them, 0.92 passed French 102, that are 0.92*6100 = 5612.

So, the probability under the problem's question is P = 5612%2F10000 = 0.5612. ANSWER

Notice that 0.5612 = 0.61*0.92.

So, another way to get the answer is to multiply the two given probabilities.
