The probability that ALL THREE missiles will hit target is the product


    0.5*0.7*0.4 = 0.14.


The probability that at least one missile will not hit the target is the COMPLEMENT to it, i.e.  1 - 0.14 = 0.86.

p(A hits the target) = .5
p(B hits the target) = .7
p(C hits the target) = .4

the probability that at least one will not hit the target is equal to 1 minus the probability that all will hit the target.

the probability that all will hit the target is equal to .5 * .7 * .4 = .14.

1 minus .14 = .86.

the probability that at least one will not hit the target is equal to .86.
