Question 1116829: card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled deck of 52 cards. What is the probability of drawing a face card or a spade?
A. 25/52 B. 1/2 C. 6/13 D. 11/26
Initially I thought the answer was A because it only makes sense, but it turns out the answer is D. How is this right? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
There are 13 spades in the deck and 12 face cards. However, 3 of the face cards are also spades, hence there are 13 + 9 = 22 cards out of 52 that would constitute a successful outcome of the experiment. So, 22/52 or 11/26, answer D.
