| Question 1100030: In the power ball lottery game, winning the jackpot requires that you select the correct five unique numbers between 1 and 58 inclusive (don't have to match the order) and, in a superset drawing, you must also select the correct single number between 1 and 22 inclusive. You can put this solution on YOUR website! The first 5 numbers range from 1 to 58. Since the order doesn't matter, this is a combination problem. The number of combinations of 58 things taken 5 at a time is C(58,5) = 4582116.
For the superset number, there are 22 possibilites.
Thus the total number of combinations from the 6 numbers is 4582116*22 = 100806552
Since there is only one winning combinations, the odds are 1 out of 100806552, or about 1 out of 100 million!
