Question 99546: I have two questions I am not sure I solved correctly could you possibly help me and tell me if I solved these both correctly? Thank you.
add and simplify:
1.) x^2/x+10 + 9x-10/x+10 I got x + 9 is this correct?
substract and simplify:
2.) y-2/y+3 - y/2y+6 I got y-4/2(y+3) is this correct?
Thank you in advance for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your second answer is correct.
.
The answer to the first problem is x-1 and you get it as follows:
.
Given:
.
x%5E2%2F%28x%2B10%29+%2B+%289x+-+10%29%2F%28x%2B10%29
.
Since both parts of this problem have the common denominator of x + 10, the numerators
can be added and the result placed over the common denominator to get:
.
%28x%5E2+%2B+9x+-+10%29%2F%28x%2B10%29
.
The numerator can be factored. When you factor it the result is:
.
%28%28x+-1%29%28x%2B10%29%29%2F%28x%2B10%29
.
Now cancel the common factors of x + 10 in the numerator and x+10 in the denominator:
.
%28%28x+-1%29%28cross%28x%2B10%29%29%29%2F%28cross%28x%2B10%29%29
.
and you are left with the answer:
.
x-1
.
Hope this helps you find your mistake. I suspect it was in the factoring of the numerator.
.
Good job on the second problem. That was a little "tricky" to solve.
