Please help me solve this problem. It looks simple but I have no idea where to start or what to do?
Solve: x+6/x=5
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it this equation?

x + 6%2Fx = 5.

If so, multiply both sides by x. You will get

x%5E2+-+5x+%2B+6 = 0.

The roots are 2 and 3.

You can apply the quadratic formula, or the Viete's theorem, or to factor the left side explicitly: x%5E2+-+5x+%2B+6 = (x-2)*(x-3).

Answer. x = 2 and/or x = 3.

You really need to consider using parentheses to make certain it is clear what parts of your expressions go in the numerator and what parts go in the denominator. Assuming you actually meant:

Multiply both sides by x.

Add -x to both sides.

Multiply both sides by the reciprocal of the coefficient on the variable.

My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
