a * a^3 + 3a^2b + 3ab^2 + b^3 = a^4 + 3a^3b + 3a^2b^2 + ab^3 + 0b^4. It seems like you just multiply, but then somehow you get the 0b^4 at the end. Can anyone explain where the 0b^4 is coming from? Thanks! Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source):

Perhaps to balance out the terms? Descending orders of a and increasing orders of b.
Since there is a zero as a coefficient, the equation is technically correct.
