(3x2 – 6x + 8) – (-8x2 + x – 4)
open the second bracket with the -ve sign and we have,

3x^2-6x+8+8x^2-x+4
collect like terms
3x^2+8x^2-6x-x+8+4 = 11x^2-7x+12
therefore the final answer is 11x^2-7x+12
