Question 424091: How do I get rid of the parentheses? This is solving equations by factoring.
x(x-5)=0
I know the answer is {0,5}, but I cannot figure out why 0 and how do you get rid of the parentheses? If you didtribute the x to get rid of the parentheses, wouldn't that make is x^2-5x?
Thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi
IF
x(x-5)=0 |In solving for x, the 'parenthesis' is our best friend!
THEN it must be true that:
x = 0
or
(x-5)=0
x = 5
