Subtract and simplify:

 1*(2/x^2 - 2x - 8) -1*(1/x^2 - 5x + 4)

 2/x^2 - 2x - 8 - 1/x^2 + 5x - 4  

Combining like terms

 1/x^2 + 3x - 12
