: please help with this one:Write equation of the circle in standard form and sketch its graph:5x^2 + 5y^2 +10x + 1 = 0
I keep ending up trying to get a square root of a fraction and this is what I have so far:
x^2 + y^2 + 2x + 1/5 =0 (so what do I do with the 5?)
x^2 + 2x + y^2 + 1/5 = 0
x^2 + 2x + 4 = y^2 + 1/5 = ??? I am missing a step to get here - thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x^2 + 5y^2 +10x + 1 = 0
x^2 + y^2 +2x + 1/5 = 0
x^2 + 2x + y^2 + 1/5 = 0
add 1 to both sides of the equation
x^2 + 2x + 1 + y^2 + 1/5 = 1
(x+1)^2 + y^2 = 4/5
(x+1)^2 + y^2 = (2/(sqrt(5))^2
