Dividing by 2
x^2 = 72/2 = (2X36)/2 = 36
x^2= 36
Taking the sqroot,we get
x = + or munus 6
Answer: x =6 and x = -6
Verification:Put x=6 in (1)
LHS = 2x^2 = 2X(6^2) = 2X(36) = 72 = RHS
Put x=-6 in (1)
LHS = 2x^2 = 2X[(-6)^2]= 2X36 = 72 = RHS
Therefore our values are correct.
