Question 160489: Could someone show me how to solve for x?
4x%28x-2%29-5x%28x-1%29=2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x%28x-2%29-5x%28x-1%29=2

Distribute to remove parentheses:

4x%5E2-8x-5x%5E2%2B5x=2

On the left:
Combine like terms 4x%5E2 and -5x%5E2 to get -x%5E2.
Combine like terms -8x and 5x to get -3x.

-x%5E2-3x=2

To get 0 on the right add -2 to both sides

-x%5E2-3x-2=0

Multiply through by -1 to get the coefficient of
x%5E2 to be a positive number:

x%5E2%2B3x%2B2=0

Factor the left side:

%28x%2B2%29%28x%2B1%29=0

Use the zero factor principle:

matrix%282%2C2%2Cx%2B2=0%2Cx%2B1=0%2Cx=-2%2Cx=-1%29
