| Question 140938:  This problem is in a polynomial related math packet so I assume that this would be the correct place to submit this. This is a verbal question. Here it is:
 Everyday at noon a ship leaves San Francisco for Tokyo, and at the same instant a ship leaves Tokyo for San Francisco. Each trip lasts exactly 8 days. How many Tokyo ships will each San Francisco ship meet?
 I'd appreciate any help with this problem. Thank you for your time.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! let's say you are on Hawaii, you watch a Tokyo ship pass a San Francisco ship 
 the next Tokyo ship is a day behind this one, but the San Francisco ship is moving
 
 in half a day, the San Francisco ship has moved half the original distance to the next Tokyo ship
 __ while the next Tokyo ship has also moved half the original distance
 __ so they meet, half a day after the San Francisco ship passed the previous Tokyo ship
 
 ships will pass every half day, so on an 8 day voyage there will be 15 meetings at sea
 
 a Tokyo ship arrives at the same time that the San Francisco ship departs
 __ and the San Francisco ship arrives at the same time that a Tokyo ship departs
 __ if these are considered meetings, then 2 more must be added
