Question 578222: how do you find the number of sides in a regular n-gon with these given facts
each side = 4.8 cm, apothem=7.4, and area = 177.6cm sqd Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054) (Show Source):
The formula for the area of a regular polygon
A = ap, where a = the apothem, and p = perimeter.
There are n sides and each side is 4.8 cm so the perimeter is 4.8n,
The area is gives as 177.6 cm², and the apothem 7.4 cm. Substituting
A = ap
177.6 = (7.4)(4.8n)
177.6 = 17.76n
= n
10 = n
There are 10 sides.
