Question 626170: A class is working on finding patterns among the counting numbers. A student noticed an interesting pattern. She said that if you take 3 consecutive counting numbers (e.g. 7,8&9) and square the middle number (8 squared) then the resulting number (64) is one larger than the product of the two other numbers (i.e 64 is one greater that 7 x 9 = 63). Is this true for all sets of three consecutive numbers?

Question 628548: It has been estimated that only about 30% of California residents have adequate earthquake
supplies. Suppose you randomly survey 11 California residents. We are interested in the
number who have adequate earthquake supplies.
d. What is the probability that at least 8 have adequate earthquake supplies?
e. Is it more likely that none or that all of the residents surveyed will have adequate earthquake
supplies? Why?
I tried to do this question by using Binomial Probability Distribution. I took my p as 0.3 and n=11. But it says at least 8 so the probability was P(x>=8) and when i calcualated i got some weird result . If anyone can and have time to do it i would appriciate thank you!

Question 629158: Imagine that you have a set of integers e.g. {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}.
In how many ways can we form groups of size 1,2,...6, by taking into account that we only can group consecative numbers (and of course single).
For example, some examples are:
1) {1} {2} {3} {4} {5} {6} (6 groups)
2) {1,2} {3,4} {5,6} (3 groups)
3) {1} {2,3} {4,5} {6} (4 groups)
4) {1,2,3,4,5,6} (1 group)
and so on.....
