Question 1193777: Distinguishable Ways to Arrange the Word ILLINOIS
Found 2 solutions by Edwin McCravy, ikleyn: Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
ILLINOIS is an 8-letter word. If you could tell the 2 L's apart and the 3 I's
apart, the answer would be 8!, but since you can't tell the 2 L's apart, you need to
divide by the number of ways to arrange them, which is 2!. Also since you can't
tell the 3 I's apart, you need to divide by the number of ways to arrange them,
which is 3!.
