Hi,
Ten students are lined up to be seated.
in how many ways can 3 of them be seated in a row of 3 chairs?
Depends on how many people You have to choose from for each chair:
10people for the 1st chair, 9 for the 2nd... etc
10people x 9people x 8people
10 x 9 x 8 = 720 ways
