let x = the multiplier
then
7x = no. of boy
5x = no. of girls

The number of boys is 8 more than that of girls.
7x - 5x = 8
2x = 8
x = 4 is the multiplier

Find their numbers. 4(7) = 28 boys, 4(5) = 20 girls
