fred uses 4/12 of each cup
janice uses 3/12 of each cup
so together they use up 7/12 of each cup
leaving 5/12 of each cup unused
there are 7 cups so multiply 7 times the unused portion

35%2F12=x = 2and%2811%2F12%29
so 2.91666666666666666666... cups of water were not used...what a waste.
