Question 806489: An item is originally priced to sell for $75 and is marked down 60%. A customer has a coupon for an additional 15%. What is the total percent reduction?
I did 75 x .60 = 45. so 75 - 45 = 30. Then I did 30 x .15 and got 4.5 so 30 - 4.5 = 25.5
However, it wants to know what the percent reduction is. Do you add 60 percent to 15 percent and get 75 percent? I'm confused. :/

There are two ways to compute it.
Total reduction could be 60+15=75%
75% off means the customer pays 25%
.25*75=18.75
18.75/75=25% is paid
75% discount
60% off means the customer pays 40%
.4*75=$30
15% off means the customer pays 85%
.85*30=$25.50 is paid
25.50/75=34% is paid
75-25.50=49.50 discount = 49.50/75=66% discount
