Since the discount was $8 (40-32=8) we can say
40p=8Where p is the percentage
p=8%2F40=1%2F5So take the discount and divide by the original price
So p=.20 or 20%. So she got a 20% discount

32=40-40%28.2%29
32=40-8
32=32works
