The key is that the sales tax is tacked on after
the final selling price is determined
In words:
(original price of skis) - (the discount) = final price without tax
(final price without tax) + tax = final cost
160+-+.25%2A160+=+160+-+40
160+-+40+=+120 (this is final price before tax)
The tax added to this is:
.05%2A120+=+6
120+%2B+6+=+126
The cost of the skis is $126
