Luke spent all his money, so the money they had left together was Ahmad's.

Ahmad spent 3/5 of his money, so he had 2/5 of his money left; the amount they had left together was $400-$280 = $120.

let x = amount Ahmad started with

(2/5)x = 120
x = (5/2)120 = 300

Ahmad started with $300 and ended with $120, so he spent $180.

ANSWER: $180
