Question 1194986: 3 children share some stickers. Andrew has 1/5 of the stickers. Blaze has 10 more stickers than Andrew. Cadmus has 20 stickers. What is the total number of stickers the 3 children have? Answer by ikleyn(52781) (Show Source):
Let x be the total number of the stickers.
Then Andrew has ; Blaze has and Cadmus has 20 stickers.
With it, write the equation for the total
+ + 20 = x.
To solve it, multiply both sides by 5
x + (x+50) + 100 = 5x.
Simplify and find x
50 + 100 = 5x - x - x
150 = 3x
x = 150/3 = 50.
ANSWER. In all, there were 50 stickers.
