You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Out of 20 pikes, 12 are marked and so (20 - 12 =) 8 are unmarked
The ratio of marked to unmarked pikes is 12:8.
The total no. of marked pikes in the pond is 36.

Let the total no. of unmarked pikes in the pond be 'x'.
The ratio of marked pikes to unmarked pikes is constant.
So, 36%2Fx+=+12%2F8
or x+=+36%2A8%2F12
or x+=+24

So, total population of pikes = marked + unmarked pikes = 36 + 24 = 60.
