If at the beginning of the month the score was "a" units, 


then at the end of the month it will be  a%5Bend_of_the_month%5D = a*(1+0.40)*(1-0.25) = 1.05a units.



The difference  a%5Bend_of_the_month%5D - a = 0.05a, or 5% of "a".
