.
The starting 56 liters of mixture was 40 of milk and 16 liters of water.

How much water should be added to make ratio 4:5 ?

40%2F%28w%2B16%29=4%2F5

Solve for w:

40*5 = 4*(w+16)

200 = 4*(w+16)

50 = w+16  ====>  w = 50-16 = 34.

Answer. 34 liters of water should be added.

The solution  (the equation proposed)  by @josgarithmetic is/was   W R O N G.
