He bought a whole bunch of plants at the nursery the other day, right away five died. then our dog dug up 2/9 of them. out of the remaining plants half of them died pretty soon afterword then a rabbit came and ate half of what was left and half a plant more. my brother only had three plants left then how many did he buy at the nursery?
This is what I have so far:5 died 2/9 dug up (so 7/9 left) 1/2 died (so 1/2 left) 1/2 eaten (so 1/2 left) and 1/2 a plant eaten

Or how to figure out which number is larger or smaller when it is mixed types. I know how to figure out which is larger among fractions and decimals separatel, but not when they are mixed.
What number in the list above has the greatest value?
8/3, 2.28, 10/12 or 0.199.
