Question 84638: I was helping my daughter with her homework. I was trying to find out how to remember what method was used in determining when a fraction is bigger or smaller than another fraction. Example: is 6/8 greater or smaller than 3/4. I know how to divide 3 divided by four, turn into a decimal than a percent and compare the greater number. But I thought their was an easier way in determining how to tell if a fraction was bigger or smaller than another fraction.

Question 85929: I am a 41-yr-old reviewing elementary school fractions. WOW! I've forgotton almost everything :( In simplifying and then multiflying fractions, I don't understand the process of "dividing out" the prime factors. I do understand writing the numerator and the denominator as the product of prime factors, but the process and idea behind "dividing out" is still a mystery to me. I am working in the book "Math Made Simple" and it doesn't explain HOW to do it.
Can you help me? Thanks very much, PJ
