Question 509148: How would you simplify 5/6+2/3*3/4-1/4*2/5 to equal 37/30? I tried it and got 82/30.
This is how I did it:
5/6+2/3*3/4-1/4*2/5
I canceled the threes out and got 1*2 then I also cross cancelled the 2 and 4 making it a 1 and 2, I did that again to the 1/4 and the 2/5 leaving me with this.
5/6+2-1/10
after that I found the lcd which is 30
I Plug that in leaving me with this
5/6=25/30
2/1=60/30
1/10=3/30
when you plug those in to the equation they equal 82/30
the answer is suppose to be 37/30

Question 509893: 6 7/8 divided by 21 3/5 = 4 3/4 divided x
I cross multiplied getting 6 7/8x = (7 3/4)(21 3/5)
divided by 6 7/8 on both sides
x=(7 3/4)(21 3/5)/6 7/8
i tried turned the fractions into improper fractions but from this point i need step by step instruction. I have not been able to resolve correctly from this point.

Question 511772: simplify the expression : (15x+21)/(9x+15)
*look for an integer factor thats common to numerator and denomenator
seperate the numerator and denomenator into sections: 15x/9x + 21/15
find a common denomenator therefore, 15x/9x * (15/15) and 21/15* (9x/9x); now add together
225x+189x/135x = 364x/135
anyways, i tried this but it did not give me the right solution. any insight?

Question 511788: 1/(x+1) + a/(x^2-1) = x/(x^2-1) to hold for all x, a must equal a #
simplify the left side of the equation and compare what you get with the right side.
(1/(x+1))(x^2-1)/(x^2-1) + (a/(x^2-1))(x+1)/(x+1)= (x^2-1)+a(x+1)/((x^2-1)(x+1))
therefore (ax+a)/(x^3-x) which simplifies to a/(x(x-1))
but this is not a number... let me know! thanks!
