There are two ways to solve these, I'm not sure which your teacher wants, but I will do it by turning them into improper fractions;
First lets take the first two:
1+3=
turn into improper fractions; +
you need to have common denominators to add and subtract fractions, which will be 30; +=;
Now lets take that answer and subtract the next fraction from that one; -
find common denominator, 30; -=
turn into a mixed fraction; =1
