You can put this solution on YOUR website! your work on the most inner set of parentheses first.
then you work on the next most inner set of parentheses.
then you work on the next most inner set of parentheses.
then you work on the remainder of the expression after all sets of parentheses have been resolved.
within each set of parentheses, and on the remainder of the expression after all sets of parentheses have been resolved, you work in the following order.
exponents and roots are done first working from left to right.
multiplication and division is done next working from left to right.
addition and subtraction is done next working from left to right.
look at the following picture and then look at the comments below the picture.
step 1 resolves the first innermost set of parentheses which gets you ((-16 + 1) * 2) / 5
step 2 resolves the next innermost set of parentheses which gets you (-15 * 2) / 5.
step 3 resolves the next inner most set of parentheses which gets you -30 / 5.
step 4 resolves the remaining expression which gets you -6.
a set of parentheses has been resolved when you can perform no more operations on the expression within the parentheses.
(-2 + 1) has been resolved to (-1) because, even though the parentheses are still there, you can simplify the expression within that set of parentheses no more.
-16 - (-2+1) becomes -16 - (-1) which then becomes (-16 + 1).
