Change each fraction to an equivalenet fraction with the same denominator::
(1/6) = 7/(7*6) = 7/42
(1/7) = 6/(6*6) = 6/42

Add to get the sum:: 13/42

A shortcut - cross multiply.
= (7+6)/(7*6)
= 13/42
