Step 1, multiply thru by 24 to eliminate fractions.

%28-+%28x+-+18%29%29%2F6+-+1%28x+-+8%29%2F8+=+x+%2B+5

- 4(x - 18) - 3(x - 8) = 24(x + 5) ------- Multiplying by LCD, 24

- 4x + 72 - 3x + 24 = 24x + 120

- 7x + 72 + 24 = 24x + 120 

- 7x + 96 = 24x + 120

- 7x - 24x = 120 - 96

- 31x = 24
