Let lyn's age be "x"; Anna's age is "3x".
--------------------
One year from now DATA:
Lyn will be "x+1" ; Anna will be "3x+1"

EQUATION:
sum of ages will be 38
x+1 + 3x+1 = 38
4x+2 = 38
4x = 36
x = 9 yrs old (Lyn's age now)
3x = 27 yrs old (Anna's age now)
