You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To add 2 fractions:
If they have the same denominator, then you simply add the numerators and keep the denominator. E.g. 1/4 + 2/4 = (1+2)/4 = 3/4
If they don't have the same denominator then you convert each of them to have the same denominator, which will be the LCM of the 2 denominators.
Here fraction 1 = 3/9 = 1/3. Fraction 2 is 13/8.
LCM of denominators (3 and 8) is 24.
So you write 1/3 as 8/24 (multiply both num and denominator by 8)
And you write 13/8 as 39/24 (multiply both numerator and denominator by 3)
Now since the denominators are the same, you can add the fractions.
3%2F9+%2B+13%2F8+=+8%2F24+%2B+39%2F24+=+%288%2B39%29%2F24+=+highlight%2847%2F24%29
Hope this helps.
