a.) x^2 + bx + 12
Determine two values of c so that each expression can be factor?
a.) x^2 + 6x + c

a) think any factor of 12, let say (3,4) or (2,6) and (1,12) this is the possible value of x since it is a quadratic equation,
The factor: %28x%2B3%29%28x%2B4%29=x%5E2%2B3x%2B4x%2B12=x%5E2%2B7x%2B12 so b here is 7
do this to other 2 possible value of x, you will get b=7 and b=13
b)this time think 2 numbers and their sum must be 6, let say (3,3) and (5,1)
again this is the possible value of x.
The factor: %28x%2B3%29%28x%2B3%29=x%5E2%2B3x%2B3x%2B9=x%5E2%2B6x%2B9 so c here is 9
do this to other possible value of x, you will get c=5
