Find the Least Common Denominator (LCD). This is the smallest number that 8 and 16 can be divided into without remainder:
LCD=16
Rewrite the fractions in terms of the LCD. For the first term, you need to multiply the denominator (8) by 2 to get 16. If you multiply the denominator by 2, you also need to multiply the numerator by 2 so that the fraction does not change.
For the second term, you don't have to change anything since the denominator is already the LCD.
So now the expression becomes this:
%28%282%2A3%29%2F%282%2A8%29%29%2B6%2F16
Simplify the first term:
6%2F16%2B6%2F16
Now that the denominators of the 2 terms are equal, you can add them up. To do this, add the numerators and keep the denominator the same:
12%2F16
This fraction can be reduced. Both numerator and denominator can be divided by 4. This gives you your final answer:
highlight%283%2F4%29
