Question 622114: I just need checking if I have answered this question correctly.
Mary and Ann together receive a total of £306.00 for babysitting. Ann is paid for 14 days work and Mary is paid for 15 days work. Ann's pay for 6 days work is £6 more than Mary gets for 4 days. Work out how much they each earn per day.
I worked out that over 14 days, Ann would get £20.00 more than Mary over the period. I then gave Mary's earnings as x. So 2x + £20 = £306. x = £143. Therefore, Mary earns £143 and Ann earns £163.
Thanks.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let anns pay be a and mary's pay be m
You are told
6a+%2B+6+=+4m
%283a%2B3%29%2F2+=+m
You are also told
14a+%2B+15m+=+306
14a+%2B+15%28%283a%2B3%29%2F2%29=+306
14a+%2B+%2845a%2B45%29%2F2+=+306 multiply through by 2
28a+%2B+45a+%2B+45+=+612
73a+=+567
a+=+7.767 per day
%28%283%2A7.767%29%2B3%29%2F2+=+m
13.15+=+m
Check your answer
is 14+%2A+7.767+%2B+15%2A13.15+=+306??
108.7+%2B+197.25+=+306+ or close enough to allow for the rounding we did?
