Question 392010: Add and express in lowest terms. I need to show all work and not sure how to do this.
4 1/4 + 5 1/9 + 6 1/2. Found 2 solutions by josmiceli, Earlsdon:Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The LCD is 36
4 1/4 = 4 9/36
5 1/9 = 5 4/36
6 1/2 = 6 18/36
I can add the fractions and whole numbers separately:
4 + 5 + 6 = 15
9/36 + 4/36 + 18/36 = 31/36
15 31/36 answer
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Add: ++
Method 1) First, convert all of these mixed numbers to improper fractions. Next, find the common denominator (least common multiple of 4, 9, and 2). This will be a number that will be divisible by 2, 4, and 9.
It looks like 36 will. I found this by multiplying 4X9 = 36 and this is divisible by all three numbers.
Convert the improper fractions so they all have the common denominator of 36. ==
Now convert this to a mixed number by diving 571 by 36 and putting the remainder (if there is one) over 36.
Method 2)
Add the integer parts: Then add the fractional parts using the method above to find the common denominator of 36. = now add this to the integer sum of 15 to get:
