Question 363302: Please could someone kindly Help me!!!
This is my Question:
Mr Jeffries is twice as old as his daughter. In six years Mr Jeffries age will be three times what his daughter's age was six years ago. How old is each person now?
This is how I'm doing it not sure if right???
Mr.Jeffries x years-----> x+6
Daughter 2x years-----> 2x+6
(Jeffries)(Daughter)
3(x+6)= (2x+6)
3x+18 = 2x+6
3x-2x = 18-6
1x = 12
1x 1x
x = 12
I don't think this answer is right
Please Help!!!
Thanks:)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = daughters age

Since "Mr Jeffries is twice as old as his daughter", this means that his age is 2x (eg if she is x=10, then he is 2x=20)

So "In six years Mr Jeffries age will be three times what his daughter's age was six years ago" means that 2x%2B6=3%28x-6%29

2x%2B6=3%28x-6%29 Start with the given equation.

2x%2B6=3x-18 Distribute.

2x=3x-18-6 Subtract 6 from both sides.

2x-3x=-18-6 Subtract 3x from both sides.

-x=-18-6 Combine like terms on the left side.

-x=-24 Combine like terms on the right side.

x=%28-24%29%2F%28-1%29 Divide both sides by -1 to isolate x.

x=24 Reduce.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:

So the solution is x=24 which means that the daughter is 24 years old. So Mr Jeffries is 2*24=48 years old

Notice that in 6 years he will be 48+6=54 and 6 years ago his daughter was 24-6=18. Finally, notice that 18*3=54. So this verifies the answer.
