SOLUTION: Using the ideas of additive and multiplicative inverse of rational numbers, how would I solve the following equations?
A. -5x+13=-12
B. 1/3(x)-7=25
C. 3x-4=x-12
D. x+11/9=2/3
Question 250278: Using the ideas of additive and multiplicative inverse of rational numbers, how would I solve the following equations?
A. -5x+13=-12
B. 1/3(x)-7=25
C. 3x-4=x-12
D. x+11/9=2/3
In the first one, I believe x=5. However I am unsure I figured this correctly.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Additive and multiplicative inverse is talking about removing terms from either side of the equation
for example in A. -5x+13=-12
we want to get rid of the 13
we use the additive inverse to add -13 to both sides
aditve inverse is sometimes called "the opposite"
resulting in -5x=-25
then we multiply by -1/5 also called the reciprocal or multiplicative inverse
and we get the same as dividing by -5
x=5
we do the same with the others

all of your problems use the same techniques
add the opposite or multiply by the reciprocal
