Question 144501: Add or subtract as indicated. (finding LCD)
b/b-1 + 2b/b^2-1
a-1/a+1 + a+1/a-1
4/a-5 - 1/5-a
It would be cool if someone could explain that to me!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'll do the first one, you use the same method to do the other two
Given: b%2F%28b-1%29+%2B+2b%2F%28b%5E2-1%29+
Look at the term in the denominators. You have to find a common denominator before you can combine the values in the numerator. You can always use both terms, but what you really want to do to avoid heartache later on, it only use those factors from each term in the denominator that are required to make the eventual LCD.
Look at the left hand denominator term (b-1). Not much you can do there, but use it as is.
Look at the right hand denominator term %28b%5E2-1%29. Right away you say to yourself, hmm that looks like the difference of two squares. And right you are. b%5E2-1+=+%28b-1%29%28b%2B1%29.
Now you see that both of the above terms have the factor (b-1) in them. So you only need to use one (b-1). The LCD is composed by taking each of the unique factors (remember to allow for powers if there are any) and using each unique one.
In our case, the factors are (b-1) and (b+1).
So the LCD is (b-1)(b+1).
b%2F%28b-1%29+%2B+2b%2F%28b%5E2-1%29+
%28%28b%29%28b%2B1%29%29%2F%28%28b-1%29%28b%2B1%29%29+%2B+2b%2F%28b%5E2-1%29+
+%28%28b%29%28b%2B1%29%2B+2b%29%2F%28%28b-1%29%28b%2B1%29%29+
+%28b%5E2+%2Bb+%2B+2b%29%2F%28%28b-1%29%28b%2B1%29%29+
