You can put this solution on YOUR website!
14 is to 22 as 28 is to 44 Write this as:
14%2F22+=+28%2F44 Now multiply the numerators and the denominators by (3%2F2)
%283%2F2%29%2814%29+=+21
%283%2F2%29%2822%29+=+33
%283%2F2%29%2828%29+=+42
%283%2F2%29%2844%29+=+66 so...
21%2F33+=+42%2F66

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The answer you are looking for is d). Why???
.
Let's write the proportion that you were given as a fraction:
.
14%2F22+=+28%2F44
.
How can you convert the left side of this proportion so it is equal to the right side? Do it
by multiplying the left side by 2%2F2. Note that 2%2F2 is equivalent to 1 so you are
just multiplying the left side by something that equals 1.
.
If you do the multiplication, the left side becomes:
.
14%2F22+=+%2814%2F22%29%2A%282%2F2%29+=+%2814%2A2%29%2F%2822%2A2%29+=+28%2F44
.
So multiplying by 2%2F2 converts the left side of the proportion so that it equals the right side.
.
Now look at answer d. The proportion in fractional form is:
.
21%2F33+=+42%2F66
.
Start with the left side and multiply it by 2%2F2 and you get:
.
21%2F33+=+%2821%2F33%29%2A%282%2F2%29+=+%2821%2A2%29%2F%2833%2A2%29+=+42%2F66
.
So multiplying the left side by 2%2F2 converts the left side so that it equals the
right side that you were given.
.
You can try the same process on answers a), b), and c) and you will see that the left side
when multiplied by 2%2F2 does not equal the right side that you are given for each
of these three answers.
.
Hope this answers your question and makes you a little more familiar with the relationship properties
between the left and right sides of fractional proportions.
