Question 199529: Hello,
I need some help. I need help with the following problems:
1. Find the slope of the line that passes through the points (-4,1) and (3,5).
2. Find the equation in slope-intercept form, of the line that passes through the points (4,6) and (-7,-3); write the equation in slope-intercept form.
These just have me completely stumped. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
# 1
Note: is the first point and is the second point .

m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the slope formula.

m=%285-1%29%2F%283--4%29 Plug in y%5B2%5D=5, y%5B1%5D=1, x%5B2%5D=3, and x%5B1%5D=-4

m=%284%29%2F%283--4%29 Subtract 1 from 5 to get 4

m=%284%29%2F%287%29 Subtract -4 from 3 to get 7

So the slope of the line that goes through the points and is m=4%2F7

# 2

First let's find the slope of the line through the points and

Note: is the first point and is the second point .

m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the slope formula.

m=%28-3-6%29%2F%28-7-4%29 Plug in y%5B2%5D=-3, y%5B1%5D=6, x%5B2%5D=-7, and x%5B1%5D=4

m=%28-9%29%2F%28-7-4%29 Subtract 6 from -3 to get -9

m=%28-9%29%2F%28-11%29 Subtract 4 from -7 to get -11

m=9%2F11 Reduce

So the slope of the line that goes through the points and is m=9%2F11

Now let's use the point slope formula:

y-y%5B1%5D=m%28x-x%5B1%5D%29 Start with the point slope formula

y-6=%289%2F11%29%28x-4%29 Plug in m=9%2F11, x%5B1%5D=4, and y%5B1%5D=6

y-6=%289%2F11%29x%2B%289%2F11%29%28-4%29 Distribute

y-6=%289%2F11%29x-36%2F11 Multiply

y=%289%2F11%29x-36%2F11%2B6 Add 6 to both sides.

y=%289%2F11%29x%2B30%2F11 Combine like terms.

So the equation that goes through the points and is y=%289%2F11%29x%2B30%2F11

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
slope=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m=(1-5)/(-4-3)
m=-4/-7=+4/7
m=(6-(-3))/(4-(-7))
m=9/11
maybe you can find the y=mx+b from here
